Role Description

Being part of iron making research group, you are expected to

  • Develop process simulation and control models through experimental and computational research which enhances blast furnace iron making process.
  • Use flow knowledge to develop important research aspects that help mitigate flow related problems across Tata Steel value chain.
  • Co-ordinate with various agencies (plant operations, maintenance teams as well as technology group) and perform plant scale trials to generate substantial research output.
  • Develop discrete as well as continuum models to understand the flow behavior of fluids, solids and mixtures of both relevant to integrated steel plant.
  • Develop laboratories and pilot facilities.

Skills

Primary skill:

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), CFD-DEM coupling, Multiphase flow, Discrete element method (DEM), Fluid flow and transport phenomena

Secondary Skill

Knowledge of blast furnace ironmaking and associated process modelling

Physical experimental characterization and analysis of fluid, solid and solid-fluid flow

Other Details

Minimum Education:

B.Tech./B.E. and M.Tech./M.S./M.E./Ph.D.

Experience

1.2 to 8 years in process modelling for blast furnace iron making/fluid flow/multiphase flow/granular flow, etc.

  • Carrying out simulations in commercial packages like FLUENT, OpenFOAM, LIGGGHTS, EDEM, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, MATLAB, Python, etc. and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experimental modelling of solid and solid-liquid material flow.
