Being part of iron making research group, you are expected to
1)Develop process simulation and control models through experimental and computational research which enhances blast furnace iron making process.
2)Use solid material flow knowledge to develop important research aspects that help mitigate material handling related problems across Tata Steel value chain.
3)Coordinate with internal as well as external parties to enhance and prepare new designs of problematic material handling equipment and conduct plant trials whenever required.
4)Develop discrete as well as continuum models to understand the flow behavior of granular materials (ranging from fines to coarse) relevant to integrated steel plant.
5)Develop laboratories and pilot facilities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Resolution of long term/ strategic problems of blast furnace iron making
Carry out computational and physical model experiments in granular dynamics
Develop of break through solution to the challenges of iron making though blast furnace
Understanding the problems, analysis of the problem using mathematical/experimental models, proposing solution
Modelling of solid material flow using commercial discrete element packages like LIGGGHTS, EDEM, etc. and continuum modeling using FLUENT
In depth analysis of the existing process, idea generation, experimentation at different scales
Skills
Primary skill:
Discrete element method (DEM)
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Fluid flow and transport phenomena
Secondary skill:
Knowledge of blast furnace ironmaking and associated process modelling
Physical experimental characterization and analysis of solid and solid-fluid flow

Experience:
1.Carrying out simulations in commercial packages like LIGGGHTS, EDEM, FLUENT.
2.Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, MATLAB, Python, etc.
3.Experimental modelling of solid and solid-liquid material flow.
4.2 to 7 years in process modelling for blast furnace iron making/granular flow/computational fluid dynamics.
