Summary Of Position

The Japan Ethics and Compliance Manager will be overseeing the Corporate Compliance Program in Dentsply Sirona Japan. They will be reviewing and evaluating compliance issues/concerns within the organization. This role ensures the management and employees follow local and international laws, company policies and procedures, and the company’s Codes of Conduct.

Also importantly, this a key role in building a Dentsply Sirona culture of compliance.

This manager will keep Corporate apprised of issues and concerns specific to the respective locations. Additionally, they will manage the Third-Party Compliance programs, including Distributors and Consultants.

There will be opportunities to support compliance projects on both an APAC and global level.

This Manager reports to the Ethics and Compliance Director – APAC based in Hong Kong. They will also form part of the Japan management team.

The Manager will be part of the global Ethics and Compliance team, under the Chief Compliance Officer based in the US.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Ethics and Compliance Program to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct
  • Assess and implement as needed, localised compliance controls appropriate to the local regulatory environment
  • Be the compliance leader and main contact for queries, including interaction with Healthcare Professionals and distributors
  • Collaborate with HR periodically to maintain and update the Standards of Conduct to ensure continuing relevance in providing guidance to the management and employees.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments such as HR and Legal to resolve legal compliance issues
  • Monitor compliance on all Dentsply Sirona Japan locations’ compliance with Dentsply Sirona standards and procedures.
  • Support Corporate Audit function and external auditors on Dentsply Sirona business audit exercises
  • Implement the Business Gifts and Entertainment policy, providing guidance as needed on local regulations
  • Oversight of on-going monitoring efforts at each Dentsply Sirona location of their distributor network.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Works and coordinates investigation efforts with the Corporate Compliance and Legal Department concerning alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organisation are appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
  • Monitors new legislation and industry trends to assesses changes required in Dentsply Sirona policy to assure compliance.
  • Support the company’s Data Privacy program needs, including compliance with Japan Act on the Protection of Personal Information Act (APPI), working with Data Privacy team, Legal and Ethics and Compliance functions

Training

  • Institutes and maintains an effective compliance communication program for the organisation which includes promoting the use of Compliance Hotline, heightened awareness of Codes of Conduct, and understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
  • Develops an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers

Others

  • Prepare status reports on projects and programs for Compliance and Ethics Committee meetings and Audit Committee presentations.
  • Participate in process improvement projects as necessary.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis on the Compliance Programs initiated.
  • Participate in compliance-related legal and data privacy processes and projects as necessary

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher

Experience

  • 7+ years’ experience within a regulated industry in a multinational environment.
  • Healthcare industry strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of laws on interaction with Healthcare Professionals (public and private)

in Japan

  • Experience in building and implementing anti-bribery and corruption programs

Specific Knowledge /skills

  • Familiar with operational, compliance, financial, and HR procedures and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in an individual contributor role.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Able to seek buy-in from management on compliance requirements
