About the opportunity
Alcoa is looking for a Regional Projects Approvals Manager – Brazil to join our team, being responsible for:
Core activities:
- Planning and delivery of efficient, effective, and implementable regulatory approvals is a key part of the Capital Projects program and Alcoa’s core strategy to ‘Advance Sustainably’;
- Early identification of the approvals pathway and the studies required is a crucial part of the success of the Capital Projects program. Regulatory approvals steps need to be initiated well in advance of major projects to ensure they do not impact the overall Project schedule (e.g. impoundments, refinery growth and mine moves);
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership of Alcoa Corporation’s Brazil capital projects regulatory and licensing approvals processes. All approvals processes are planned and executed in accordance with Alcoa’s Values, ‘whole of business’ requirements and global strategic objectives;
- Aligns approvals timelines with capital development pipeline;
- Develops and executes, in consultation with regional and operations resources, approvals strategy for major and critical projects including residue storage facilities, mine moves and major refinery growth projects;
- Responsible for ensuring total business alignment and compliance with project approvals strategy;
- Continuous review and assessment of approvals requirements to meet the 10 year capital plan;
- Ensures a unified, strategic approach and engagement with regulators across each location and region;
- ‘Whole of Business’ approach to managing longer term approvals ensuring site operating license and conditions are well understood and integrated into the approvals strategies;
- Supports engagement with State and Federal government agencies on issues pertaining to regulatory approvals for Capital Projects;
- Identify and manage critical risks associated with approvals and licensing processes ensuring risk mitigation actions and timing are assigned, tracked and executed in line with the Approvals Strategy;
- Provide strategic approvals advice to Alcoa’s global business leaders;
- Seek funding to execute required approvals;
- Early identification of key approvals to eliminate schedule impacts to projects.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- Graduation in Environmental Science or Engineering is essential
- Fluent English: reading, speaking and writing is mandatory;
- Have experience in the environmental field and managing major environmental approvals processes in industry.
- Have experience working in resources industry;
- Strong leadership capabilities, aptitude in decision-making ; Talent in negotiations and networking; Strategic Thinking, Project Management Skills;
- Desirable skills: Ability to listen and work as a team, Initiative to deal with unforeseen problems; Deliver results through others with positive influence; Results Oriented.
